Maximum- A Complete Review

Naseeruddin Shah, Sonu Sood and Neha Dhupia starrer crime thriller ‘Maximum’ is nothing but just another entry to the already existing long list of encounter-happy cop’s stories.

‘Ya toh top pe raho nehi toh chup raho’ – is the motto of a super cop Pratap Pandit (Sonu Sood) in Mumbai Police in 2003 who is in tussle with another cop Arun Inaamdar (Naseeruddin Shah) for maximum power. However, both the cops are in the same side who wants to root out the wrong-doers from the city.

Kabir Kaushik directed ‘Maximum’ of course is not a maximum entertainer. Best reason behind this is the plot. There is nothing new in the story. The film is somewhat like Nana Patekar starrer ‘Ab tak Chhappan’.

The film is set in the backdrop of Bombay in 2003 and contains twists fuelled by contemporary politics, land deals, and fake encounters.

Sonu Sood provides an interesting screen presence thanks to his strong and stout physique. But it is the script and writing which has sometimes put shackle to go for an outstanding performance.

Veteran Nasir is undoubtedly proved himself as usual. He in fact steals the show with his remarkable performance.

Neha Dhupia, who is playing the role of Pandit's wife, looks perfect in a Police Officer’s wife avatar. Vinay Pathak is ok, as he is in his usual character, that he has played several times earlier. Amit Sadh as a reporter is decent in his role.

Hazel Keech's popular item number 'Aa ante Amalapuram' is good but as it is purely in a non-Hindi language audience feels embarrassing for a while. It also seems Hazel herself does not get what the lyrics says. It was just an item number for her where all the item/sex appeals should be put.

Cast: Sonu Sood, Naseeruddin Shah, Neha Dhupia, Vinay Pathak, Amit Sadh

Director: Kabeer Kaushik
