“The Dirty Picture” gets Nod for TV Prime Time

The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has given nod to the ‘The Dirty Picture’ to be telecast at prime time. Earlier, the Vidya Balan, Nasiruddin Shah, Emran Haashmi, Tushar Kapoor starrer Milan Luthria's  ‘TDP’ was banned for television screening thanks to its bold shots.

The Censor Board for film certification had issued U/A certificate to the film after asking for some cuts. However, it was banned for television screening as they thought it to be too much risky to be aired at Prime time. Hence, the Board had suggested that the film should be screened after 11 pm.

But later producers of the film approached the Board again to review their decision. In the mean time ‘TDP’ was released and also earned many awards including National award and IIFA award.

It is a fact that before release of the film, when people were shown only the bold shots at the promotional videos and songs, the audience was thinking the film to be an out and out Adult category film with lots of bold scenes by Vidya Balan. Even, film analysts were not convinced that how come a perfect artist like Vidya Balan had done the shots.

But after release, once the audience watched the whole film, they themselves got the answer that the bold shots are bare needs to establish the plot rather than cheap tricks that many other films have. Perhaps, that is why Vidya Balan received so many awards.

So, when the makers of the film applied to the authorities, the Board asked for 59 cuts, amounting to 3 minutes and 10 seconds of editing and allowed the film in the small screen at the Prime time.
