Satyamev Jayate Episode 11


Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who turned social reformer through his TV programme 'Satyamev Jayate', highlighted the burning issue "alcohol addiction" in the 11th episode of the show. 

The show, which had earlier presented the themes like female foeticide, dowry system and other social diseases, informed the audiences about the alcohol addiction, which need not be ignored in the debate. 

While Vijay Simha said that alcohol addiction is out of human misery, Dr Ashish Deshpande dismissed his claim saying it is the habits of the people that spoil his life as well as his family. 

However, Simha's opinion cannot be ignored as he also told the reality and fact that how the success takes one to be addicted to alcohol. Aamir khan presented the theme giving an instance of another man identified as Laxman, who spent a whopping Rs40 lakh in hospital bills to seek some relief after decades of liquor pangs.

Laxman said that the hospitals could only treat his body not his mind. Psychiatrist Dr Vivek Benegal revealed a shocking statistics that half of India’s liquor-drinking population does harm to themselves by exceeding their limit (Four pegs, by international standards). 

He said that one's drinking is a personal, but it is also injurious to health as well as family. 

The episode ended with the introduction of Sumir Anand, who lost his son Curran to a drunk driver. It showed how drinking creates problems, which are threatening to society.
