Aamir to meet PM on Manual Scavengers' issue


Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who has recently created buzz for his TV Talk show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Monday to convey the problems of the 3 lakh manual scavengers in the country, engaged in cleaning human waste.

"We had sought an appointment with the Prime Minister and Aamir would be meeting him tomorrow morning," said the actor's spokesperson.

The problems related to the scavengers had been aired in a recent episode of the most discussed TV talk show "Satyameva Jayate". It was mentioned there that an estimated 300,000 manual workers are engaged in this undignified vocation and persist to be considered as social exiles.

Aamir has been appreciated for this attempt from all sectors of society. Huge numbers of positive comments have been seen attached to the articles on this subject from different media houses.

Earlier also Aamir had appeared before a parliamentary committee on issues concerning the medical and pharmaceutical sector following a nationwide debate on the subject when the related problem was highlighted in ‘Satyamev Jayate’.
